Dr(Smt) Kanaka Bhushanam, HOD KIMS Clinical Research Department is a renowned Gynaecologist and Medical Administrator with a zeal for Medical research. She served the combined AP state from 1979 to 2009 as a Professor, Superintendent and Medical Director . In pursuit of her service to people, she conducted many free medical camps all over AP and Telangana during her tenure as Director. Recipient of many awards from the Government of India and appreciated by her peers and superiors alike, she has received accolades from Governors, Ministers of AP and other states and many voluntary organisations with the latest one being a “Lifetime Achievement Award”. Among her rewards is a very special one that she received from the DRDO in recognition of her services to society. A lifetime member of many medical associations, she has written and published many scientific and health related articles not only in English but also in her native language Telugu. She continued her work after retiring from government service and joined the KIMS Foundation and Research Center (KFRC) as CEO, serving under the guidance of Late Professor Kakarla Subbarao and the visionary founder, Dr. B Bhaskara Rao of KIMS Hospitals. She conducted the National Conference on Stem Cell Research. She was also instrumental in obtaining recognition for the Ethics Committee from DSIR, NABH and DHR. She has conducted many training programmes and webinars in Clinical Research for Ethics Committee Members, investigators and CRCs. She also started an international, indexed, open access journal. She started the “KIMS Clinical Research Dept” with a view to strengthen the Clinical Trials and Research in the medical field. She has guided many from various institutions from India and other countries (IITs, Medical Colleges of US and Netherlands-to name a few) for their dissertations. Many Pharm-D students are currently undergoing training for CRC under her and many of them have received good placements in reputed Pharma / Research Organisations as a result of their efforts and her guidance.
